18 Cambodian Dancers Head to Malaysia for Asian and Southeast Asian Championships
PHNOM PENH, July 23, 2026 – Eighteen Cambodian dancers, including both junior and senior athletes, departed from Techo International Airport on the morning of July 22 to compete in the 5th WDSF Asian–Southeast Asian Dance Sport Championship 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The championship, which runs from July 23 to 26, marks Cambodia's first international dance sport event of the year. Ms. Heng Simon, Secretary General of the Cambodia Dance Sport Federation, explained that earlier international competitions this year were limited to athletes aged 30 and above, while Cambodian dancers are generally 20 years old or younger.
Despite the long gap in international competition, Ms. Heng Simon expressed confidence that the athletes' consistent training—including on weekends—has kept them in top form.

She identified the Philippines and Vietnam as key rivals but noted that Cambodia has previously secured numerous medals at the Asian and Southeast Asian championships. She called on the public to support and encourage the Cambodian athletes.
H.E. Nhem Marok, President of the Cambodia Dance Sport Federation, described the event as an important opportunity for junior athletes to gain experience and for senior dancers to add more medals to the nation's tally.
She expressed confidence that Cambodia will successfully secure medals, particularly in the junior categories, as the athletes are highly skilled. She also noted that this serves as a strong preparation for Cambodian youth ahead of future world-level competitions.
In addition to pair events, Cambodia will also compete in the Female Solo category.
