395 Families Remain Displaced by Thai Illegal Occupation in Preah Vihear
PHNOM PENH, July 14, 2026 – The ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH), led by the Philippine Head of Mission, has visited a temporary shelter in Preah Vihear province where 395 displaced families are living, unable to return to their homes due to ongoing Thai military occupation.

The field visit, coordinated by the Cambodian Liaison Group on the morning of July 14, took the team to Wat Udom Kiri Tuol Andet safety center, also known as Wat Thnal Bek, in Thmey commune, Kulen district. According to the Ministry of National Defence, the displaced civilians remain unable to return to their homes as Thai forces continue to illegally occupy Cambodian territory with barbed wire, shipping containers, and destroyed residences.

The AOT mission highlighted the urgent need for the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) to resume border demarcation work in line with the December 27, 2025 GBC Joint Statement, which prioritizes the safe and dignified return of displaced civilians.

Cambodia reaffirmed its firm stance on protecting the international border as established by the Indochina-Siam Boundary Commission, rejecting any border alterations achieved through force.
