445 Scam-Linked Foreigners Among 721 Deported as Cambodia Widens Crackdown

PHNOM PENH — October 21, 2026: More than 400 of the 721 foreigners deported from Cambodia this month were removed on online scam-related grounds, as authorities pressed ahead with a campaign to dismantle cyber fraud networks and rescue their victims.

The General Department of Immigration said 355 Indonesians and 90 Chinese nationals — 445 in total — accounted for the scam-linked deportations between October 11 and 20. The Indonesians left through Techo International Airport, while the Chinese group was sent out on a special flight.

The remaining deportees, drawn from 18 other nationalities, were removed for offences ranging from illegal border crossing and document forgery to kidnapping for ransom, drug trafficking and illegal work, the department said. Those cases passed through international border gates.

Beyond the removals, the department said security forces are working to eliminate technology-related crime, investigating and pursuing ringleaders, and securing the release of victims who were tricked into scam operations, so they can return home safely.

The operation was carried out under the direction of H.E. Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha, Minister of Interior, and H.E. General Sok Veasna, Director General of Immigration, with the Investigation and Procedures Department executing the procedures.
