79 Bangkok Entertainment Venues Shut Down After Deadly Nightclub Fire
PHNOM PENH, July 29, 2026 – Thai authorities have shut down 79 entertainment venues in Bangkok following a week-long crackdown triggered by a deadly nightclub fire that killed 36 people earlier this month, according to a report by VnExpress International.
The inspections, carried out between July 19 and 26, covered 865 of Bangkok's 1,204 targeted entertainment venues, or approximately 72 percent of the total, Deputy Bangkok Governor Pornphrom Vikitsreth said as quoted by The Nation.
Nineteen establishments were ordered to suspend live music performances for lacking the required entertainment permits, while 60 businesses were temporarily shut down for operating without valid licences, Thairath Online reported.
The crackdown came after a fire tore through a beer hall and live music venue in Bangkok's Chatuchak District on July 12, killing 36 people and injuring 70 in Thailand's deadliest blaze in more than a decade.
Authorities said inspections of entertainment venues will continue across Bangkok to strengthen public safety, ensure operators comply with regulations, and restore confidence among both local patrons and foreign tourists visiting the city's nightlife districts.
Thailand's tourism industry, which relies heavily on foreign arrivals, welcomed 16.7 million tourists in the first half of 2026, a 3.09 percent drop compared to the same period last year.
