ASEAN Observers Visit Border Pillar No. 27 as Cambodia Cites Inviolability of Frontier

PHNOM PENH — Oct. 1, 2026: ASEAN observers have inspected the border situation at Boundary Pillar No. 27 in Banteay Meanchey province, escorted by Cambodia's Liaison Group, which cited the principle of the inviolability of frontier in its position.
The visit took place at 10:10 a.m. on Oct. 1, 2026, at Thmar Romiel Lech village in Thmor Puok district, according to the Ministry of National Defence. The ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia observed, verified and reported on conditions at the site.
The Ministry said the mission was intended to give the observers a direct understanding of the situation at agreed boundary pillars and to show Cambodia's commitment to resolving border issues peacefully through dialogue and bilateral mechanisms under the Joint Boundary Commission.
Cambodia reaffirmed its position on safeguarding the international boundary line inherited from the Commission of Delimitation of the Boundary between Indo-China and Siam, citing respect for international law, the principle of Uti Possidetis Juris, the Franco-Siamese Conventions and Treaties, the delimitation maps, the Procès-Verbaux, the 2000 MOU, the 2003 TOR and other agreed documents.
