Australian Minister Visits Cambodia, Strengthens Bilateral Ties
PHNOM PENH, August 3, 2026 – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn received a courtesy call from Australian Minister for International Development Dr. Anne Aly on July 30, during her official visit to Cambodia from July 29 to 31.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the longstanding and fruitful relations between the two countries, highlighted by frequent high-level exchanges and strong people-to-people connections. They also emphasized the importance of the Senior Officials' Consultations as a key mechanism to deepen bilateral cooperation.
The ministers noted steady growth in bilateral trade over the past four years and acknowledged further potential for expansion. Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn encouraged Australian businesses to invest in Cambodia's priority sectors, including education, agriculture, industry, clean energy, minerals, and health services.
The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed gratitude for Australia's continued support to Cambodia's peace and reconstruction efforts, particularly in peacekeeping, agriculture, healthcare, education, and mine action. He also thanked Australia for its additional contribution of 3 million Australian dollars to strengthen Cambodia's social protection programme amid the global impacts of the Middle East crisis. In response, Minister Aly reaffirmed Australia's pride in contributing to Cambodia's socio-economic development and pledged continued assistance.

Both sides exchanged views on regional and international developments of mutual concern and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting each other's core interests while promoting peace, stability, and prosperity through cooperation in international forums.
Looking ahead, the two countries are preparing to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027 and plan to organize joint commemorative activities.
The Deputy Prime Minister also briefed Minister Aly on the ongoing Thailand-Cambodia border conflict and noted that Cambodia has provided comprehensive information on the issue to the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh.
