Belgian Envoy Praises Cambodia's Progress as Two Nations Explore Digital Partnership
PHNOM PENH, August 6, 2026 – Cambodia and Belgium have moved to strengthen bilateral ties, with discussions ranging from digital technology cooperation to the upcoming Francophonie Summit, during a meeting between Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Chea Vandeth and Belgian Ambassador Michel Parys.

The talks, held at the ministry's headquarters on Wednesday afternoon, opened with Ambassador Parys offering warm congratulations on Cambodia's recent development milestones. He specifically highlighted the newly inaugurated Techo International Airport, commending its architectural distinction and aesthetic appeal.
Minister Chea Vandeth provided an update on Cambodia's progress in rolling out its verify digital platform, noting that the system is now operational and that Cambodia intends to share the technology with partner nations in the future. The minister also briefed the ambassador on Cambodia's preparations for the 20th Francophonie Summit and the accompanying FrancoTech event, both scheduled to take place in 2026.

The meeting then turned to the future of digital workforce development. The two sides agreed to explore the possibility of establishing a direct educational partnership between the Cambodia Digital Technology Academy, overseen by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, and Belgian universities. The proposed collaboration would focus on advanced digital skills training and facilitate lecturer and student exchange programmes.

The discussions reflect both nations' interest in deepening cooperation in the technology sector, with Belgium positioned as a potential partner in Cambodia's efforts to build a skilled digital workforce.
