Brazil's First Resident Ambassador to Cambodia Seeks Stronger Ties Across Key Sectors
PHNOM PENH, July 29, 2026 – Brazil's first Ambassador to Cambodia with residence in Phnom Penh has pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation, as she held her first official meeting with a senior Cambodian government official.
Ambassador Vivian Loss Sanmartin met with Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Vongsey Vissoth on July 28 at the Office of the Council of Ministers, marking a new chapter in Cambodia-Brazil diplomatic relations.
The ambassador expressed her desire to learn more about Cambodia and explore potential cooperation in agriculture, food processing, vocational training, health programmes, social assistance, and digital governance. She also committed to strengthening ties between investors and business communities from both countries.
Deputy Prime Minister Vongsey Vissoth welcomed the ambassador and noted that despite the geographical distance, Cambodia-Brazil relations have been growing steadily. Bilateral trade has increased year by year, and both countries are now looking to expand cooperation in politics, trade, investment, agriculture, digitalisation, skills development, and tourism.
Both sides also discussed ways to attract more Brazilian tourists to Cambodia through promotion and improved flight connectivity.
"We have much to learn from Brazil's experiences, and we believe there is great potential for cooperation between our two countries," the Deputy Prime Minister said.
