Cambodia Accuses Thailand of Sovereignty Violation After Helicopter Crosses Border

PHNOM PENH, September 4, 2026 – Cambodia has formally protested against Thailand following an incursion by a Thai military helicopter into its airspace, which it described as a serious breach of international law and bilateral commitments.
The incident occurred on September 3, when a Thai military helicopter flew approximately 400 metres into Cambodian territory near the Doung International Border Checkpoint in Battambang province's Kamrieng district, according to a statement from the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Cambodia said the incursion violated the 1944 Chicago Convention, which guarantees a state's full sovereignty over its airspace, as well as the de-escalation provisions of the December 27, 2025 Joint Statement of the GBC. The government called on Thailand to halt such actions immediately and to uphold its obligations to foster mutual trust and peaceful dispute resolution.
