Cambodia and China Close Landmark Mine Action Project Under Mekong-Lancang Cooperation

PHNOM PENH, July 9, 2026 – A landmark mine action project under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation framework has successfully concluded, marking a significant milestone in regional efforts to address the legacy of landmines and explosive remnants of war in Cambodia.

The closing ceremony of the "Lancang-Mekong Cooperation in Mine Action" project was held on May 8, 2026, presided over by H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch, Senior Minister and First Vice President of the Cambodia Mine Action and Victim Authority, and H.E. Wang Wenbin, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Cambodia.

H.E. Kan Pharidh, Secretary of State and Chairman of the National Secretariat of Cambodia for Mekong-Lancang Cooperation, delivered a keynote address at the ceremony, highlighting the project's contribution to mine clearance efforts in Svay Rieng Province and its role in strengthening regional cooperation.

The project, implemented under the Mekong-Lancang Special Fund, aimed to support the clearance of landmines and explosive remnants of war while enhancing knowledge sharing, technical expertise, and capacity-building among Mekong-Lancang member countries in the field of mine action.
