HAIKOU – May 22, 2026 – Cambodia's Minister of Tourism H.E. Huot Hak led a high-level delegation of government and private sector representatives to meet with H.E. Liu Xiaoming, Governor of China's Hainan Province, for in-depth discussions on strengthening and expanding tourism cooperation between Cambodia and Hainan.
Governor Liu Xiaoming warmly welcomed the Cambodian delegation and expressed strong interest in Cambodia's peace, political stability, and development across all sectors. He highlighted the potential of Cambodia's famous cultural and natural tourism destinations, including Angkor Wat and coastal areas, which can attract more Chinese tourists.
The Governor also briefed the Cambodian side on Hainan's economic situation, its unique free trade port, and its goal of becoming a connectivity hub between China's provinces, Cambodia, and other regional countries.
Both sides agreed to explore the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on tourism cooperation between Cambodia's Ministry of Tourism and the People's Government of Hainan Province, aimed at making cooperation more effective and mutually beneficial.
Discussions also focused on promoting direct flight connections between Hainan and Cambodia's key tourism destinations, particularly Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Preah Sihanouk province, to facilitate travel and strengthen people-to-people exchanges. Encouraging meetings between Cambodian and Hainan private sectors to develop tour packages was also agreed upon.
Minister Huot Hak requested Hainan's assistance in promoting Cambodia's tourism potential to Chinese citizens, particularly Hainan residents, through media channels, tourism platforms, and travel companies. He also proposed organizing FAM trips for Hainan-based travel companies, journalists, content creators, and KOLs to visit Cambodia and promote its tourism potential to the broader Chinese market.
Notably, Hainan tourism enterprises have actively collaborated in the past, bringing more than 300,000 Chinese tourists to Cambodia. With Cambodia's visa exemption campaign, they are planning to bring an additional 500,000 tourists.
