NEW YORK – May 29, 2026 – Cambodia has called for reforming and strengthening global governance to better respond to geopolitical tensions, climate change, economic downturns, and other emerging global challenges, during a meeting of the Group of Friends of Global Governance at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Assigned by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Secretary of State H.E. Kan Pharidh delivered a speech at the meeting held on the morning of May 28 under the theme "Reforming and Enhancing Global Governance: Working Together to Address Global Challenges."
In his remarks, the Secretary of State highlighted the necessity of inclusive, rules-based, and people-centered cooperation, while emphasizing the need to enhance the role and voice of developing countries.
Drawing on Cambodia's own experience of transitioning from war to peace, H.E. Kan Pharidh stressed that dialogue, diplomacy, and collective action are essential pathways toward peace and sustainable development.
