Cambodia Deports 17 Thai Nationals Linked to Online Scams and Drug Offences

PHNOM PENH, July 17, 2026 – Cambodian authorities have deported 17 Thai nationals, including eight women, in connection with online scam operations and drug-related offences, the General Department of Immigration announced.
The deportation took place on July 17 through the Cham Yeam International Border Checkpoint in Koh Kong province. According to authorities, the individuals were involved in online scam activities, illegal drug possession and distribution, and were staying and working illegally in the Kingdom.
The operation was carried out under the directives of H.E. Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and H.E. Lt. Gen. Sok Veasana, Director General of Immigration.
The deportation reflects the Royal Government's firm stance under Prime Minister Hun Manet's leadership to crack down on all forms of technology-related crime and illegal drug activities in Cambodia. The measures aim to protect public safety, eliminate illegal operations, and ensure justice for victims who were deceived into working in scam compounds.
Authorities reiterated that the campaign targets all perpetrators without exception, including those operating behind the scenes, while also working to rescue and repatriate victims trapped in illegal operations.
