Cambodia Guarantees Rank, Benefits for Soldiers Killed or Wounded in Service
PHNOM PENH, August 13, 2026 – Cambodia has codified a benefits framework for military personnel who are killed, die, or become disabled while on duty, ensuring that those who sacrifice for the nation receive formal recognition and financial support.
Under Article 18 of the country's military regulations, the policy provides clear entitlements for soldiers serving in different capacities and under varying circumstances.
For the Fallen and Deceased
Soldiers who are killed or die while performing military duties—whether in active combat, during training, or in routine assignments—are entitled to posthumous benefits equivalent to those of a professional soldier who has died in service. In all such cases, the rank of Second Lieutenant is conferred.
For the Disabled
The policy distinguishes between two categories of disability:
- Category "A" applies to soldiers who become disabled as a result of combat, combat support, hazardous training, dangerous experiments, or natural disasters. They receive benefits equivalent to those of a professional soldier with the rank of Second Lieutenant.
- Category "B" applies to soldiers who become disabled while serving in regular duty zones outside combat or high-risk environments. They are entitled to benefits equivalent to those of a Category "B" disabled professional soldier.
The policy reflects the government's commitment to honouring the service and sacrifice of military personnel, ensuring that those who are wounded or fall in service to the nation are not forgotten.
