Cambodia Joins 3rd ASEAN-ROK Health Ministers Meeting in Kuala Lumpur
PHNOM PENH, September 11, 2026 – A Cambodian health delegation led by Professor Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, participated in the 3rd ASEAN-Republic of Korea Health Ministers Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Friday.

The meeting brought together health ministers from all 11 ASEAN Member States, the ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General, and representatives from the Republic of Korea, under the theme "Smarter Data, Better Care: Harnessing Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovations for a Connected ASEAN-Korea Healthcare Ecosystem."

In his remarks, Professor Chheang Ra welcomed the selection of AI and digital innovation as the priority theme, noting that the Republic of Korea is a global leader in these fields. He acknowledged, however, that challenges remain and that levels of progress vary among ASEAN Member States.

The Minister outlined three key priorities for cooperation with the Republic of Korea: building digital literacy for health professionals and students; preparing health systems for AI deployment at the local level, including national data governance spanning creation, integration, and use; and ensuring that patient medical histories can be transformed into usable information across different health institutions.

The meeting adopted a Joint Statement reaffirming commitment to strengthening ASEAN health sector resilience through digital transformation, capacity-building programmes, and the development of strategies for digital health modernization.
