Cambodia Leads International Push to Break the Chain of Online Scams
PHNOM PENH — Sept. 23, 2026: Cambodia opened the International Conference on Combating Online Scams in Phnom Penh on Wednesday morning, convening under the theme "Acting Together towards Breaking the Chain and Eradication of Online Scams."
The conference marks a significant moment in the region's collective response to a criminal industry that has spread across borders and inflicted growing harm on societies and economies worldwide.
Addressing the ceremony, officials described online scams as a global issue posing an escalating threat to public security, social order and the economies of many nations, Cambodia among them.
The Royal Government of Cambodia reaffirmed its firm stance against online scams and transnational crime, vowing that Cambodian territory will not become a haven for criminal activity.
To that end, the Royal Government has strengthened institutional mechanisms and legal frameworks, applying strict measures against perpetrators, facilitators and those who protect or profit from criminal networks — including asset seizures and legal punishment — in a concerted effort to suppress and prevent the crime.
The conference reflects Cambodia's commitment to international cooperation and to safeguarding the region from the reach of organised criminal networks.
