Cambodia Moves Forward with Home-Grown School Meals Programme Following Multi-Sector Talks

PHNOM PENH, August 17, 2026 – Cambodia is pressing ahead with efforts to build a sustainable, nationally owned school feeding programme, following a second high-level consultation involving government ministries, development partners, and civil society.
The meeting focused on advancing the School Meals Accelerator (SMA), a global initiative aimed at strengthening school feeding systems. Participants from the education, agriculture, health, nutrition, and social protection sectors worked together to validate national priorities and refine Cambodia's application to the SMA.
The discussions will help strengthen the Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, which sources food locally to support both child nutrition and smallholder farmers.

The initiative builds on Cambodia's recent engagement with the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, reflecting the government's commitment to fighting malnutrition and improving learning outcomes through coordinated, multi-sectoral action.
The World Food Programme (WFP) is supporting the process by facilitating partner coordination and helping Cambodia align its national approach with global best practices.
