Cambodia Strengthens Women's Role in Peace and Security with New Action Plan Roadmap

PHNOM PENH, August 21, 2026 – Cambodia has taken a significant step toward the development of its first National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (NAP-WPS), with a final consultation workshop held on August 20 at the Cambodiana Hotel.
The workshop, led by Minister of Women's Affairs Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi and organized in partnership with The Asia Foundation and UN Women, brought together representatives from line ministries, institutions, and development partners to validate the strategic roadmap for the plan.
The consultation focused on gathering final inputs, ensuring policy coherence, and building national ownership of the draft NAP-WPS. Participants also discussed how to translate the framework into effective implementation.
Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi underscored that women's meaningful participation in times of crisis and conflict resolution is essential to lasting peace and security. She reaffirmed Cambodia's commitment to advancing the Women, Peace and Security agenda at both regional and national levels, contributing to peacebuilding, resilience, and sustainable development.
The strategic roadmap is designed to respond to both traditional and non-traditional security challenges, reflecting Cambodia's national context and priorities. The workshop identified five priority areas, including women in defence and peacekeeping, trafficking and transnational crime, digital security, climate and disaster security, and economic and human security.
