Cambodia Taps AI to Modernize Labour Market and Skills Development

PHNOM PENH, August 28, 2026 – Cambodia is stepping up its use of artificial intelligence to modernize labour market information and improve employment services, as highlighted by Secretary of State Sovann Vannarath during a regional policy dialogue in Bangkok.
The virtual session, held on August 27 as part of the 6th ASEAN-China policy dialogue on "Using AI to Build Labour Markets that Work for Jobs," was co-organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and China's Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. The forum brought together policymakers and social partners to exchange knowledge and explore ways to harness AI for labour market development.
Secretary of State Sovann Vannarath emphasized that reliable labour market data is essential for effective AI integration. She noted that Cambodia's National Employment Agency (NEA) is strengthening its Labour Market Information System (LMIS) and working to integrate data on employment, labour force, TVET, and social security to better understand labour demand, emerging occupations, and skills gaps.
She also stressed the importance of stronger linkages between employment services and TVET, supported by AI and technology, to ensure that job matching, career guidance, and skills development remain responsive to evolving labour market needs.
The dialogue serves as a platform for regional cooperation on practical solutions to shared development challenges.
