Cambodia Tells Investors: Reforms Aim to Cut Costs and Speed Approvals

PHNOM PENH — Oct. 8, 2026: Cambodia has told international investors that the Council for the Development of Cambodia is pursuing internal reforms to speed up approvals, cut unnecessary costs and improve aftercare for foreign investors.
Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, First Vice Chairman of the CDC, made the commitment at the 4th Public-Private Business Breakfast Briefing on Oct. 8, 2026, organised by EuroCham and the EU Delegation with CDC support.

Around 90 participants attended, including officials from ministries serving as co-chairs of sectoral working groups under the Government-Private Sector Forum, along with representatives from the ADB, UN and GIZ and chambers of commerce from China, the EU, Japan, South Korea and the United States. Discussions focused on streamlining business-related administrative procedures.
EU Ambassador Igor Driesmans and EuroCham Chairman Tassilo Brinzer opened the event, which included a presentation of EuroCham's research and an open Q&A session.
Sun Chanthol set out three priorities for the CDC: attracting FDI by simplifying procedures and reducing costs, providing end-to-end investment facilitation, and strengthening aftercare services to build long-term investor confidence. He urged the private sector to prepare for a shift toward higher value-added upstream industries and called for closer public-private communication.
