Cambodia Urges Demand-Driven Approach to International Peacebuilding Support
PHNOM PENH — Sept. 25, 2026: Cambodia has called on the international community to ensure peacebuilding support is demand-driven and aligned with national priorities, stressing that lasting peace depends on national ownership and inclusive governance.
H.E. KAN Pharidh, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, made the remarks at the Peacebuilding Commission Ministerial Meeting in New York on Sept. 24, 2026, held during the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly.
The meeting, chaired by the Kingdom of Morocco, was held under the theme "National Ownership in Practice: Strengthening Inclusive State Institutions through International Peacebuilding Support."
In his address, H.E. KAN Pharidh set out three key points: national ownership, reconciliation and inclusive governance are indispensable foundations for lasting peace; international peacebuilding support should be demand-driven, nationally owned and aligned with national priorities; and the Peacebuilding Commission should further draw on the diverse experiences and comparative strengths of its members.
