Cambodia, Vietnam Pledge Stronger Economic Ties on Sidelines of Nikkei Forum

Phnom Penh, June 12,2026 – Cambodian and Vietnamese deputy prime ministers have pledged to boost bilateral trade and investment cooperation during a working meeting on the sidelines of the 31st Nikkei Forum in Tokyo.
On the morning of June 11, H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), led a high-level Cambodian delegation to pay a courtesy call and hold bilateral discussions with H.E. Le Tien Chau, Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam. Both officials were serving as honorary speakers delivering keynote addresses at the forum.
The meeting took place in a cordial and open atmosphere, reflecting the traditional friendship, good neighborliness, and comprehensive strategic cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam. According to the CDC, both deputy prime ministers held in-depth exchanges on strengthening bilateral economic, investment, and trade cooperation, aiming to further boost trade volume and cross-border investment.
Both sides also emphasised the importance of connecting transportation and logistics infrastructure, as well as improving service delivery at bilateral border checkpoints to create convenient, fast conditions and reduce costs for travel and cross-border goods transportation.
Accompanying H.E. Sun Chanthol were H.E. Chum Sounry, Cambodian Ambassador to Japan, along with senior officials from the CDC and the Ministry of Commerce.
Both leaders expressed strong hope that the tangible outcomes of this meeting would serve as a driving force to propel friendly ties and cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam to become even stronger, more enduring, and progressively prosperous.
