Cambodia Welcomes Francophone Assembly's Firm Stance on Sovereignty and Border Tensions

PHNOM PENH, July 13, 2026 – Cambodia has welcomed a resolution adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF) that reaffirms strong support for the Kingdom's sovereignty and territorial integrity while urging all parties to refrain from unilateral actions along the border with Thailand.
H.E. Ouch Borith, First Vice President of the Senate, expressed his deepest appreciation to APF delegations following the resolution's passage at the 51st Annual Session in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on July 11. He described the decision as a testament to the Assembly's steadfast commitment to international law, peaceful dispute resolution, and the principles enshrined in the Bamako and Saint-Boniface Declarations.
Yaoundé (July 11, 2026): The 51st Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie adopted a resolution supporting Cambodia's territorial integrity and elected Cambodia as the Asia-Pacific regional delegate.
The resolution expresses grave concern over the ongoing tensions along the Cambodia-Thailand border since July 2025, including civilian casualties, displacement, reported ceasefire violations, and damage to cultural and religious heritage—some of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The APF called for the immediate de-escalation of tensions, the resumption of dialogue, and the withdrawal of all armed forces from disputed areas. It also urged full implementation of the Joint Statement signed by the Prime Ministers of Cambodia and Thailand in Kuala Lumpur on October 26, 2025, and reaffirmed support for the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) as the appropriate bilateral mechanism for resolving border issues.
During the same session, H.E. Ouch Borith was elected as the APF's Asia-Pacific Regional Representative for the 2026-2028 term.
