Cambodian Police Help Recover $12.8M Lost in Singapore Email Scam

Phnom Penh, October 30, 2026: Cambodian authorities have helped intercept and return USD 12.8 million to a Singaporean company that was tricked into transferring the funds to a Cambodian bank account in a Business Email Compromise scam, the General Commissariat of National Police said.

According to a press release dated Oct. 29, 2026, the Singapore Police Force was alerted on Oct. 26 that a petrochemical firm in Singapore had been defrauded into wiring USD 12.8 million to a suspicious account in Cambodia after suspects used a counterfeit email address.

Singaporean police then sought help from the General Commissariat of National Police, with support from the 24/7 Hotline Scam working group. Working with the National Bank of Cambodia and other relevant institutions, Cambodian police intercepted the money and arranged for it to be returned to the victim.

The General Commissariat said the case demonstrates its capacity, efficiency, responsibility and commitment to international cooperation against transnational crime and online scams, and thanked the Singapore Police Force, the National Bank of Cambodia and partner institutions for their close collaboration.
