Cambodia's National Carrier Enters New Era with 20 Chinese C909 Jets on Order

PHNOM PENH, July 22, 2026 – Air Cambodia has placed a historic order for 20 C909 regional jets from China's COMAC, marking the first bulk purchase of Chinese-made aircraft by a foreign flag carrier and signalling a new chapter for the Kingdom's aviation sector.
The agreement was formalised on July 17 in Shanghai, with deliveries set to commence in the second half of 2026. Prime Minister Hun Manet, who attended the signing ceremony, commended the partnership and reaffirmed the Royal Government's support for the project's implementation.
Alongside the aircraft purchase, Cambodia's State Secretariat of Civil Aviation signed a separate Memorandum of Understanding with COMAC to strengthen cooperation in infrastructure, operational support, training, and maintenance.
The deal brings together key figures from both nations, including Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, Minister Mao Havannall, Minister Cham Nimul, and COMAC Chairman He Dongfeng, alongside leaders from Chinese and Cambodian aviation and financial institutions.
Industry observers said the C909 fleet will enhance Air Cambodia's regional connectivity, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen the airline's competitive position, contributing to the modernisation of Cambodia's aviation infrastructure.
