Cambodia's Rangers Lead Fight Against Illegal Logging With U.S. Support
PHNOM PENH — Sept. 29, 2026: Cambodia's forest rangers are stepping up their role as the Kingdom's first line of defence against illegal logging, backed by new training and technology from U.S. law enforcement agencies and the Wildlife Conservation Society.
Ministry of Environment rangers assigned to the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary in Mondulkiri province completed a comprehensive programme focused on investigating illegal timber smuggling. The training also introduced Cambodian officials to "Arbortron" equipment, which can identify and track the species of illegally harvested timber.
The U.S. Embassy said the support reflects Washington's commitment to combating illegal wildlife and timber trafficking, and to helping Cambodia protect its natural resources.

"By equipping local rangers with modern enforcement tools, international partnerships help safeguard vital natural ecosystems, protect American economic interests, and combat environmental crime at its source," the Embassy said.
The cooperation highlights Cambodia's central role in safeguarding its own forests and in the wider regional effort to curb environmental crime.
