China-Cambodia Cooperation Reaches Villages and Farms, Ambassador Says

PHNOM PENH — October 20, 2026: Cooperation between Cambodia and China is delivering concrete benefits to rural communities, with a flood-prone village in Takeo Province and cashew farmers in Kampong Thom among the latest to gain, according to H.E. Wang Wenbin, the Chinese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia.
In Facebook posts, the ambassador highlighted the China Road and Bridge Corporation's upgrade of a narrow dirt track in Phum Ta Yeung, Bourei Cholsar District, Takeo Province, into a two-kilometre paved road as part of the Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources Management Project. The village is flooded every year, and the new route now gives residents a safer, easier way to travel and transport farm produce, especially during the rainy season. The ambassador described the road as a "road of friendship" linking the people of Cambodia and China.

On agricultural cooperation, he said a research team from the Tropical Crops Genetic Resources Institute of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences worked alongside farmers in Kampong Thom Province to rehabilitate ageing cashew orchards. The restored orchards show improved tree vigour and recovered yields — results welcomed by H.E. Chay Chim, Director of the Department of Agro-Industry at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. The technique is expected to help restore productivity across roughly 300,000 hectares of ageing cashew orchards in Cambodia and encourage farmers to keep their trees in production.
The ambassador's posts present the two initiatives as examples of the practical partnership between Phnom Penh and Beijing.
