Energy Minister Keo Rottanak Says China Remains Key Partner in Cambodia's Energy Development

PHNOM PENH, July 24, 2026 — Minister of Mines and Energy Keo Rottanak said China continues to play a major role in Cambodia's energy sector, particularly in hydropower development, while the country continues to attract financing from a broad range of international partners.
In an exclusive interview with Bloomberg Television, Minister Keo Rottanak said Chinese contractors remain competitive in hydropower construction, while transmission projects receive financing from multilateral institutions and international investors.
He added that Cambodia is also expanding battery energy storage systems and pumped-storage hydropower projects to support greater integration of renewable energy into the national electricity grid.
