Fake Tour Package Turns into Nightmare as Indian Men Tortured in Pattaya
PHNOM PENH, July 29, 2026 – A dream holiday turned into a nightmare for three Indian men who were lured to Thailand with a cheap tour package, only to be tortured for a week by a gang demanding a ransom of Rs 68.4 lakh from their families, according to a report by NDTV.

Thai police rescued the victims, aged between 23 and 26, on July 27 from a rented house in Pattaya's Bang Lamung district. The men were found bound and locked in two bedrooms, with visible bruises on their ankles from repeated beatings.

The gang, comprising four Pakistani nationals and one Indian man, lured the victims with a seven-day tour package priced at around Rs 1.99 lakh each. After arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport on July 21, they were taken to Pattaya and driven to the house where they were held captive. The victims were beaten, hung face down, starved, and forced to call their families in India to demand payment.

Police Colonel Napatpong Kositsuriyamanee, immigration chief of Chon Buri, said the victims' relatives contacted Thai authorities for help. The gang used a Dubai-registered phone number to hide their location, but police tracked them to the house. The kidnappers escaped on motorcycles moments before officers arrived.

The incident occurred shortly after Thailand reinstated visa-free travel for Indian passport holders following a decline in tourist arrivals from India.
