Funan Techo Project Secures Nearly $1 Billion in Financing
PHNOM PENH, September 11, 2026 – A facility agreement worth nearly US$1 billion has been signed to finance the Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources Management Project, marking a significant milestone in Cambodia's infrastructure development.
The agreement was formalized on September 9, 2026, between the Export-Import Bank of China (China Exim Bank) and Funan Techo Coastal-Inland Waterways Company. Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), H.E. Sun Chanthol, witnessed the signing during the International Investment Cooperation Forum in Xiamen, Fujian, China.
The project will be implemented under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, linking Cambodia's inland waterways to the sea. Once completed, it is expected to lower logistics costs, boost sector competitiveness, and stimulate the development of industrial zones, logistics hubs, agricultural processing facilities, satellite cities, and tourism along the waterway.
The CDC has described the project as a transformative initiative that will create a new economic corridor and serve as a vital artery for Cambodia's long-term economic growth.
