Germany Pledges Continued Support for Cambodia's GFT Sector at Textile Summit
PHNOM PENH, June 17, 2026 – Germany has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Cambodia's garment, footwear, and travel goods (GFT) sector, as the country's textile industry gathers for its annual summit in Phnom Penh.

In his welcoming remarks at the Cambodia Textile Summit 2026, Mr. Christof Weigelmeier, Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Development Cooperation at the German Embassy, set a collaborative tone for the event, emphasising the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in driving sustainable progress.

Germany, a steadfast partner to Cambodia's GFT sector for over a decade, remains deeply engaged in the industry's sustainable transition through GIZ Cambodia and the FABRIC programme. The summit featured panel discussions on key topics including circularity and textile waste management, heat stress and workplace safety, and social dialogue and shared responsibility across the industry.

Two important publications were officially launched during the summit: a Textile Waste Assessment and Guide to Textile Waste Management and Recycling Investment in Cambodia, and a Sustainability Recommendation Paper on Heat Stress.

The summit brought together industry leaders, workers' representatives, brands, and policymakers for meaningful dialogue and collaboration throughout the day.
