H.E. Chea Therith: Samdech Hun Sen's Provincial Meetings Strengthen Senate Accountability

PHNOM PENH, July 7, 2026 – The ongoing series of provincial meetings led by Samdech Techo Hun Sen serves to strengthen accountability between the Senate and voters while promoting transparency and more effective local governance, according to H.E. Chea Therith, Spokesperson for Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
Speaking about the purpose of the meetings, H.E. Chea Therith explained that the engagements aim to enhance accountability, transparency, and efficiency in local administration, while also fostering closer ties with local authorities and reminding officials at all levels to focus on their duties and improve public service delivery.
On the morning of July 7, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, continued his series of provincial meetings by visiting Mondulkiri province, meeting with 500 provincial, municipal, district, and commune council members, as well as leaders of various departments and units at Mondulkiri Provincial Hall.
This marks the 17th mission and 20th province visited by Samdech Techo Hun Sen in his ongoing engagement with local officials across the Kingdom. The visits began with Kampong Cham province and have since covered Thbong Khmum, Kampong Speu, Takeo, Kampot, Kep, Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, Phnom Penh, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Kampong Thom, Kandal, Siem Reap, Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pailin, Kratie, and Mondulkiri.

During the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his pleasure at returning to meet with officials in Mondulkiri and praised their efforts in local development. He reminded all officials, particularly commune and sangkat councils, to continue serving the nation and people effectively, providing fast and efficient public services.
He also called for improved tax and customs collection efficiency and stricter measures against tax evasion to increase national revenue. He urged authorities to maintain national stability and social security, suppressing crimes including theft, robbery, drug trafficking, and technology-related offences.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also instructed authorities to pay attention to veterans and retirees, emphasizing that they have made significant contributions to national development. He reiterated that retired teachers and education officials are not under the Veterans and Retirees Association, as the education sector had its own association before its establishment.
He also called for the resolution of land disputes to be handled quickly and effectively, particularly through out-of-court settlements without bias, and for the protection of natural resources, especially in the mining sector in Mondulkiri.
Finally, Samdech Techo Hun Sen urged Mondulkiri authorities to strengthen border cooperation with Vietnam to boost trade and economic development between the two countries.
