PHNOM PENH – May 20, 2026 – Minister of Information H.E. Neth Pheaktra has called on journalists, content creators, hosts, and advertisers to prioritize ethics, truth, integrity, and social responsibility over the pursuit of likes, shares, and views.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of a workshop on "Together Promoting Ethics Through Media" organized by the Ministry of Information, the Minister emphasized that a single like may disappear, but the negative impact of unethical content can linger in the minds of youth and society for a long time.
He stated that media and social media influencers hold tremendous power over public thought, perception, and behavior, particularly among young people. Content produced must be based on fact, accuracy, virtue, ethics, truth, integrity, and respect for human dignity.

While affirming that freedom of the press and expression is an important right, the Minister stressed that this freedom must go hand in hand with responsibility, respect for the law, ethics, and human dignity. Freedom without responsibility can become a risk to society and national cultural values.

The Minister strongly condemned the use of women's images in degrading or inappropriate ways, or as objects for unethical content. "Respecting women means respecting mothers, families, society, and Cambodian national identity," he said. "The dignity of women is not a commodity, but a human value and a national value that must be protected, promoted, and respected."
