Health Ministry Opens Training on Integrated HIV, Harm Reduction and Mental Health Services

Phnom Penh, October 27, 2026: Eighty-three doctors and service providers have begun a 10-day training course in Phnom Penh on "Integrated HIV, Harm Reduction and Mental Health Services," as Cambodia moves to strengthen patient-centred care.

The course, held at the National Centre for HIV/AIDS, Dermatology and STDs (NCHADS) from Oct. 19 to Nov. 2, 2026, was opened by H.E. Dr. Hok Kimcheng, Director General of Health Technical Affairs at the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Hok Kimcheng highlighted the value of embedding mental health and harm reduction within HIV/AIDS services, calling for stronger knowledge and practical skills among health workers so they can recognise and assess mental health issues in patients, deliver appropriate care and refer severe cases promptly to specialised services. The aim, he said, is safe, high-quality integrated care focused on the patient.
