Indonesians Top Cambodia's Deportation List as 577 Foreigners Expelled in Scam Sweep

Phnom Penh, November 2, 2026: Indonesians made up the largest share of illegal foreigners deported from Cambodia in a two-stage crackdown, with 181 expelled as part of a total of 577 people from 22 countries, many linked to online scam operations, the General Department of Immigration said.

Authorities deported 540 foreigners, including 115 women, between Oct. 21 and 31, from Indonesia, Vietnam, China, the Philippines, Thailand, Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Korea, Cameroon, Taiwan, Uganda, Russia, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Laos, India, Kazakhstan, Ghana and Uzbekistan.

Of those, 144 Indonesians (16 women) and 36 Vietnamese (12 women) tied to online scams were deported through the Techo International Airport police post and the Trapeang Phlong border gate respectively. Others were expelled for offences including illegal border crossing, document forgery, staying without a passport, extortion, fake visa QR codes, drug trafficking and use, and illegal employment.

On Nov. 1, authorities working with the Indonesian Embassy deported a further 37 Indonesians, two of them women, who had overstayed, worked illegally and been involved in online scams, through Techo International Airport.


The General Department of Immigration said the operations follow instructions from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H.E. Sar Sokha and orders from its Director-General, H.E. General Sok Vanna, and carry out Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet's directive that Cambodia will not permit criminals to use its territory for scams or offences threatening regional and global security. Authorities have been told to continue clearing, suppressing and deporting offenders without exception to safeguard national honour and security.
