Information Minister Praises Cambodian Delegation for Defending National Interest Through Peaceful, Law-Based Means
PHNOM PENH — Sept. 16, 2026: H.E. Neth Pheaktra, Minister of Information, has expressed pride in Cambodia's delegation for defending the Kingdom's national interest peacefully and on the basis of international law, as the first round of conciliation proceedings with Thailand concluded in Singapore.
The three-day meeting, held from Sept. 14 to 16, 2026, between the Conciliation Commission and Cambodia-Thailand under Article 298 and Annex V of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) closed today.
In a message posted to his official social media page, H.E. Neth Pheaktra said Cambodians should take pride in the delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, serving as Cambodia's Agent, for presenting the Kingdom's position through law, diplomacy, dialogue and peaceful means.
He stressed that participation in the conciliation mechanism is not an act of escalating tension, but the use of a peaceful dispute settlement mechanism enshrined in UNCLOS.
"What is notable is not merely participation in a meeting," he said, "but the demonstration that Cambodia chooses law over confrontation and diplomacy over heightened tension." He added that this reflects Cambodia's consistent position of seeking peaceful resolution of disputes with neighbouring countries in accordance with international law.
H.E. Neth Pheaktra said that following this first meeting, the good faith of the parties should be measured through concrete actions: constructive participation in the process, implementation of agreements, and measurable progress toward a solution.
The first meeting has ended, he said, but the conciliation process has only just begun. The priority now, he added, is to remain rigorous and patient and to rely on international law and diplomacy to reach a peaceful and lasting solution for both neighbouring countries.
