Japanese-Backed AMON Chooses Cambodia for High-Quality Electrical Wire Plant
PHNOM PENH, Sept. 18, 2026: A Japanese-backed communications company will set up a high-quality electrical wire factory in Cambodia, in a move officials say will bolster infrastructure safety, broaden the Kingdom's industrial base and strengthen local supply chains.
Amon World Communications outlined the plan during a working meeting with H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, according to the ministry.
The company said the plant will manufacture high-quality electrical wires using Japanese quality and safety management systems. It will also transfer expertise in quality control and electrical safety, and train Cambodian technicians. AMON additionally proposed cooperation with the ministry on standards, product testing and research and development.
"This is an investment project that aligns with the ministry's vision," H.E. Hem Vanndy said, welcoming the proposal. "Cambodia does not only want to produce substitutes for some imported goods. We want to become a country that can produce, export and gain international recognition."
The Minister said the ministry can support the project through factory establishment, standards development, product testing and technology transfer, as well as by connecting AMON with potential buyers, including vehicle assembly plants and manufacturers of electrical and electronic products.
He noted that locally produced wires meeting international standards could serve Cambodia's expanding automotive and industrial sectors, with export potential to regional markets.
A second company accompanying the delegation, JCI Lab, proposed bringing firms from China and Japan to an industrial exhibition in Cambodia. It also proposed introducing autonomous vehicle technology from Zelos for use in controlled environments such as factories, ports and special economic zones.

AMON opened its Cambodia office in August and plans to build its factory in the Kingdom in 2027. Its major shareholder is Nichigoh Communication Electric Wire Co., Ltd., a Japanese manufacturer of electrical wires and cables supplying international markets.
