Japanese Tech Mission Courts Cambodian Partners in Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh— Sept. 30, 2026: A Japanese business mission combining trade and space technology expertise has arrived in Cambodia, seeking co-creation partners in fields from satellite technology to carbon reduction.

The Embassy of Japan hosted a reception in Phnom Penh on the evening of Sept. 29, 2026, welcoming a delegation from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

Among those attending were Agriculture Minister Dith Tina, Environment Minister Eang Sophalleth, and a senior representative of Post and Telecommunications Minister Chea Vandeth, along with Oknha Lao Kang of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, JETRO Phnom Penh Chief Representative WAKABAYASHI Kohei, and JAXA Earth Observation Research Center Director OCHIAI Osamu.

Chargé d'Affaires MISUMI Takahito said a symposium and business matching programme preceded the reception, covering satellite technology, artificial intelligence, decarbonisation and the Joint Crediting Mechanism — including Alternate Wetting and Drying methods to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture.


He said he hoped participants recognised the potential of Japanese technology to address social challenges in Cambodia and support the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. Turning that potential into results, he added, requires trusted partners, and the visiting Japanese firms are looking for co-creation relationships with Cambodian companies and institutions.

Japan thanked the Royal Government and relevant ministries for their continued support in advancing business and economic cooperation.
