King Commemorates 18th Anniversary of Preah Vihear Temple's UNESCO Listing

PHNOM PENH, July 6, 2026 – His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni has extended his warmest congratulations to the Cambodian people on the 18th anniversary of the inscription of the Temple of Preah Vihear on the UNESCO World Heritage List, describing it as a historic milestone in safeguarding the Kingdom's cultural heritage.
In a Royal Message issued on July 6 to mark the anniversary of the temple's inscription on July 7, 2008, His Majesty expressed profound joy and joined the nation in celebrating the occasion with the Supreme Patriarchs, Buddhist monks, national leaders, and all Cambodians.
The monarch praised the inscription of Preah Vihear Temple as both a national cultural treasure and a World Heritage Site, noting that the UNESCO recognition has contributed to the preservation and conservation of the temple for future generations on Cambodian soil.
His Majesty paid the highest tribute to the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk, recalling his lifelong dedication to protecting Cambodia's cultural heritage.
The King also expressed deep appreciation to the Cambodian people and commended the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, followed by Prime Minister Hun Manet, for their efforts to safeguard Preah Vihear Temple and uphold Cambodia's sovereignty over the World Heritage site through patriotism and adherence to international law.
His Majesty further thanked the Royal Government, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, the Preah Vihear National Authority, and the International Coordinating Committee for the Safeguarding and Development of the Historic Site of Preah Vihear (ICC–Preah Vihear), co-chaired by India and China, as well as national and international partners, for their continued commitment to preserving and developing the historic site.
