Memorial Stupa and Infrastructure for Resistance Movement Against Khmer Rouge Advances with Key Meeting
PHNOM PENH, September 9, 2026 – A key meeting has been held to advance the construction of a memorial stupa honouring the resistance movement that fought against the genocidal Pol Pot regime in the late 1970s.

Minister of Public Works and Transport Peng Ponea attended the September 8 meeting of the Sub-Committee on Stupa and Infrastructure Construction, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Say Sam Al at the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction.

The memorial project commemorates the resistance fighters who operated in the Eastern Zone, particularly in the Ta Tak forest area (Area 578), between May 1978 and January 1979. The meeting brought together relevant ministers and technical experts to discuss the construction of the stupa and related infrastructure.

The memorial will serve as a lasting tribute to those who fought against the Khmer Rouge regime and sacrificed their lives for the freedom and dignity of the Cambodian people.
