Ministry of Defence, CMAC Share War Remnant Findings with AOT-KH, MACPP

PHNOM PENH, August 31, 2026 – The Ministry of National Defence has coordinated a briefing with the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) to present findings on explosive remnants of war left by Thai forces on Cambodian territory following the 2025 conflict.
The briefing, held on August 31 at CMAC headquarters, was presented by CMAC Director General Heng Ratana to 37 ASEAN Observer Team members led by Commodore Glenn Z. Dizon, and 16 foreign military attachés from the United States, China, France, India, Japan, Australia, Russia, South Korea, and ASEAN member states.
According to the report, 349 villages across seven provinces were directly affected by the war. CMAC has completed surveys in 335 of these villages, identifying a total of 386,880 hectares of contaminated land across 5,409 areas. Of this, more than 295,096 hectares are contaminated by cluster munitions.
More than 640,000 civilians were displaced during the conflict, and many remain unable to return home due to the risk of unexploded ordnance. Researchers have collected more than 16,000 eyewitness testimonies documenting the destruction.
