PHNOM PENH, July 28, 2026 – Three earthquakes struck Japan, China, and Mexico on Tuesday 28, with authorities in each country monitoring the situations for potential damage and aftershocks, according to reports from ABC News, Reuters, and Anadolu Agency.
In Japan, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake rocked Kumamoto Prefecture shortly before 4:30 pm local time at a depth of just over six miles, according to the United States Geological Survey. The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami advisory for the coasts of the Ariake Sea and the Yatsushiro Sea, urging people to stay away from the ocean and the seashore. Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority said no abnormalities had been recorded at nearby facilities in Ikata and Genkai.
