New UNICEF Representative Pledges Continued Support for Cambodian Children's Well-being
PHNOM PENH, August 25, 2026 – The newly appointed Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to Cambodia, Maha Damaj, has met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn to reaffirm the organisation's commitment to advancing children's rights and well-being in the Kingdom.
During the courtesy call at the Ministry, the Deputy Prime Minister welcomed Ms. Damaj and assured her of the Royal Government's full cooperation throughout her tenure. He praised the enduring partnership between Cambodia and UNICEF, which has lasted for more than seven decades, and acknowledged the agency's vital role in improving the lives of Cambodian children.

Discussions centred on the implementation of UNICEF's Country Programme 2024–2028, which prioritises health and nutrition, quality education, child protection, water and sanitation, and child-sensitive public financing. These areas are closely aligned with Cambodia's national efforts to build human capital and foster inclusive, resilient development.
Both sides reiterated their shared commitment to expanding access to essential services, strengthening child protection systems, and mobilising sustainable resources to ensure that every Cambodian child has the opportunity to thrive.
