Old Munition Blast Wounds Six Thai Workers Near Israel-Lebanon Border

PHNOM PENH, August 18, 2026 – Six Thai migrant workers were wounded on Tuesday morning when an old unexploded munition detonated in a nectarine orchard near Metula, along Israel's northern border with Lebanon, with two of the workers in serious condition, according to Israeli media reports.
The Magen David Adom emergency service received a report at 6:52 AM and dispatched crews to the scene near the border town. Emergency personnel provided initial treatment, including stopping bleeding and administering medication, before evacuating the wounded by helicopter and ambulances to hospitals.
Senior MDA medic Moti Barel said the injured men were conscious when crews arrived, suffering from wounds to their bodies.
The Metula local council attributed the blast to an old unexploded munition that had not previously been located or neutralized. Police have urged the public to avoid touching shrapnel or other remnants of munitions found in the area and to report suspicious objects to authorities.
The incident follows prolonged fighting along Israel's northern border that has left unexploded ordnance scattered in some areas. The local council said there was no security threat and that routine activity in the town was continuing.
