Phnom Penh Governor Shares Urban Development Experiences at International Panel in Sydney
PHNOM PENH, September 2, 2026 – Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng has traveled to Sydney for the 11th Global Conference of the Alliance for Healthy Cities, where the capital was honored with a 2026 WHO Healthy Cities Recognition Award for its work on road safety.
Out of more than 150 cities that applied, Phnom Penh was one of just eight to receive the award.
During the conference, Governor Khuong Sreng took part in a panel discussion on urban well-being alongside officials from South Korea and Malaysia.
He showcased Phnom Penh's "School Zone Safety Project," which boosts safety around schools through better infrastructure, public awareness, and speed enforcement.
Since 2017, the city has collaborated with the Partnership for Healthy Cities on a range of projects, including school health programs, efforts to curb drink-driving, and smoke-free zones.
The Governor noted that the city's involvement in the network has allowed it to draw lessons from more advanced cities and continue its push toward becoming a more resilient and inclusive city.
