PM Hun Manet: Border Talks Must Rest on Law and Evidence, Not Social Media
PHNOM PENH — Oct. 16, 2026: Prime Minister Hun Manet has stressed that Cambodia's border negotiations must be grounded in clear legal, documentary and technical evidence, warning against relying on unreliable sources such as television, social media or hearsay.

In a Facebook post, the Prime Minister described border negotiations as a major responsibility of the Royal Government toward the nation and its people, requiring rigour and patience to safeguard Cambodia's sovereignty.

He said the method of resolution must match the circumstances — whether bilateral mechanisms such as the Joint Boundary Commission for the land border, or international mechanisms such as the UNCLOS compulsory conciliation process for the maritime boundary.

PM Hun Manet wished success to the Cambodian delegation and legal team led by Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, Cambodia's Agent, as they attend the second meeting of the UNCLOS Conciliation Commission with Cambodia and Thailand at The Hague from Oct. 14 to 18, 2026.
