Prime Minister and UN Envoy Hold Constructive Talks on Human Rights and Border Displacement
PHNOM PENH, July 30, 2026 – Prime Minister Hun Manet and UN Special Rapporteur Thomas Andrews have held a constructive meeting focused on human rights progress and the humanitarian situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
The meeting took place on the morning of July 30 at the Peace Palace, where Andrews briefed the Prime Minister on his ongoing mission, which included discussions with government officials, civil society groups, and visits to temporary shelters for displaced civilians affected by border tensions.
Andrews expressed appreciation for the Royal Government's openness and cooperation, noting that Cambodia has accepted eight of nine key human rights instruments. He also commended the government's efforts to support displaced communities and reaffirmed his commitment to working with Cambodia in a collaborative and constructive manner.

Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed the UN envoy's approach, stressing that Cambodia values partnerships built on fairness and mutual respect. He outlined the government's continued work in promoting access to healthcare and education, while also underscoring the importance of exercising rights and freedoms within the framework of national law.
The Prime Minister also provided an update on the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, reiterating Cambodia's firm commitment to resolving outstanding issues peacefully through international law and existing bilateral agreements.
