Royal Cambodian Army and Malaysian Army Chiefs Hold Video Conference
PHNOM PENH, August 18, 2026 – The Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army and Malaysia's Chief of Army held a video conference on Tuesday, marking an important step in further strengthening relations between the two armies.

General Mao Sophan, Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army, met virtually with General Tan Sri Azhan, Chief of Army of Malaysia, to discuss ways to strengthen friendship, mutual trust, and practical cooperation between the two armies. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of army-to-army ties, building on the signing of a Terms of Reference on bilateral cooperation in 2025.

General Mao Sophan also expressed appreciation for Malaysia's contribution to regional peace and stability, including its support for the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord and its role in the deployment of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), which has helped promote confidence-building along the Cambodia–Thailand border.

The two army chiefs exchanged views on the future direction of bilateral cooperation and agreed to maintain close coordination to further deepen their relationship.
The meeting concluded in a warm and cordial atmosphere, reflecting the longstanding friendship and growing partnership between the two armies.
