Russian Training Ship Perekop Departs Sihanoukville After Historic Visit with Cambodian Cadets Aboard
PHNOM PENH, September 15, 2026 – The Russian Navy's Baltic Fleet training ship Perekop concluded a two-day unofficial port call to the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port on September 12, following a visit that marked a first in Russia-Cambodia relations.
Royal Cambodian Navy representatives greeted the vessel at the pier, and Russian Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Anatoly Borovik attended the welcoming ceremony. In his address, Ambassador Borovik highlighted that the Perekop is on another long-range navigational mission this year, calling it an invaluable opportunity for cadets to build seafaring experience across diverse regions. He specifically noted that Cambodian citizens are undergoing maritime practice aboard the ship for the first time in the history of bilateral ties.

Rear Admiral Vyacheslav Sytnik, Senior of the Campaign, and Captain 2nd Rank Andrey Skorokhodov, the ship's commander, paid protocol visits to Cambodian civilian and military officials. The programme also included sightseeing in Sihanoukville, a friendly football match with Cambodian counterparts, a tour aboard for students and teachers of the Russian Embassy School, and training sessions for Cambodian Navy personnel in ship survivability and first aid.
The Perekop departed on September 12 after a farewell ceremony to continue its mission.
