Sambor Prei Kuk: 9 Years as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, A Proud Legacy for Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, July 8, 2026 – His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni has issued a Royal Message expressing profound joy and pride as Cambodia marks the ninth anniversary of the Temple Zone of Sambor Prei Kuk's inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
In his message, the King extended his congratulations to the Supreme Patriarchs, Buddhist monks, national leaders at all levels, and all Cambodians, describing the occasion as a historic milestone that reflects the nation's rich cultural heritage and identity. He expressed deep appreciation for the international recognition, which has contributed to the preservation and sustainable development of the pre-Angkorian site in Kampong Thom province.
His Majesty paid tribute to the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk for his lifelong commitment to protecting Cambodia's cultural treasures. He also commended the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet for their vision and dedication in safeguarding the nation's heritage and ensuring its place on the global stage.
The King expressed gratitude to the Royal Government, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, the Sambor Prei Kuk National Authority, and the International Coordinating Committee for the Safeguarding and Development of the Historic Site of Sambor Prei Kuk, co-chaired by France and Japan, as well as all national and international partners for their continued commitment to preserving and developing the site.
His Majesty emphasized that heritage conservation is an ongoing responsibility requiring participation from all sectors of society, especially the youth, who will carry forward this legacy. He extended his warmest blessings and wishes to all Cambodians on this proud occasion.
